"You only know what you know."
I started working on personal projects at home to fill in the knowledge gaps I found in my professional work. The best way to learn was to build somethings for myself.
Don't just tell me "It works."
Show me how. Show me why.
I’m Gary Davis, a full-stack developer with a passion for creating efficient managable systems. I build applications, design infrastructure, and turn everyday problems into projects I can learn from.
Always in the 'idea' phase
I started working on personal projects at home to fill in the knowledge gaps I found in my professional work. The best way to learn was to build somethings for myself.
The greatest benefit of building my own applications was learning how to maintain them. Having to fix problems myself taught me how to troubleshoot problems I might not have had an opportunity to encounter at work.
Designing infrastructure using mostly used hardware is challenging and rewarding. The idea is to understand every piece of the system intimately. It makes troubleshooting simpler and building more personal.
The JD Suite is essentially the culmination of all my ideas under the same brand. Putting my name on it inspires pride in my work and keeps the standards high.
I learn best when there’s something real to build. All my software projects become an opportunity to work through design philosophies, and delivery.
I enjoy connecting those pieces, working through what breaks, and improving the result. The goal of The Suite is to build useful software and understand it well enough to keep it working while demystifying the tools that larger teams and companies use to tackle large scale issues.
The tools behind the work
I build and maintain full-stack applications, connect interfaces to backend services, and help modernize existing workflows.
I work with relational data to support predicable application behavior, organize inforamtion, and make understanding of large amounts of information simple.
I run self-hosted services and manage the servers, containers, and network configuration that connect them.
I use scripts, version control, and testing to simplify repeatable work and make changes easier to manage.
My professional work includes warehouse and inventory systems, maintaining legacy applications, and investigating issues when production needs attention.
The JD Suite brings together what I build, what I use, and what I'm learning. From personal applications to WhiteLotus and LotusSentinel, each project starts with a purpose and leaves room to grow.
